The 8th Forum on International Cultural Industries, 2011 New Year, China was held at Peking University on January 8th -9th, 2011. The forum is approved by Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, hosted by Peking University and operated by Institute for Cultural Industries, Peking University, under the guide and support of Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, the State administration of Radio Film and Television, General Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China.
With the theme “Prospects for 2020: A New Decade of Chinese Cultural Industries”, the forum explored the blueprint in the coming ten years. The event brought together over 400 government officials, scholars, business elites and other specialists from throughout the world to discuss and analyze the development of Chinese cultural industries.
On the main forum, Yan Junqi, Vice-Chairman of the 11th Standing Committee of NPC, mentioned that the government has always attached important to cultural construction in the past few years. The globalization of Chinese cultural has been gradually undertaking the responsibility of fulfilling a leap development in implementing “cultural go global” strategy during the Twelfth Five–Year Plan.
Zheng Wantong, Vice-Chairman of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC, also said that Chinese cultural industries will have a good opportunity for development in the coming ten years under the support of government. It is necessary to take effective measures so as to find the way of making the cultural industries become the pillar industry of the national economy.
Zhou Qifeng, the President of Peking University said that we will display to the world that culture plays a very important role in Chinese People’s life in 2020 in the speech of “Cultural Industries and China in 2020”.
To meet the state macro strategy target, seven panels were set with the themes as following: “Cultural Sites, Cultural Trade, Digital Publication, Subject Construction, Cultural Finance, Industrial Park, Case Study”. In addition, the workshop on the development of cultural industries in Macao and the film appreciation- One week to go from Macao were hold successfully as the special activities of the forum. Great minds met together at the forum to prospect blueprint for development of Chinese cultural industries, and to explore path for integration and rejuvenation of Chinese cultural industries.
This forum also attracted much social public and media attentions. TV, Newspapers and websites like CCTV, Guangming Daily, China Cultural Daily, China Youth Daily, Economic Daily, Beijing Daily and sina.com as the forum’s media partners to report this spectacular event continuously and deeply.
Several publications would be published by the organizing committee as the achievements of the forum to stress its influence: Report of Cultural Industries, Peking University, Peking University Cultural Industries Review, and Annual Development Report of Chinese Cultural Industries (2011).
